The severe weather events in Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Tairāwhiti, Hawke’s Bay, Bay of Plenty and Tararua earlier this year were unprecedented. They caused loss and trauma to people, households and communities, and billions of dollars of damage.

We can expect more of these events. So, as a country, we need to prepare. The most powerful way we can do that is to hear from people like you; people who experienced the events, or have something to share.

Below, you’ll find an introduction from the Inquiry chair, former Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae GNZM QSO KStJ, outlining what the Inquiry is aiming to achieve, along with tools and resources to encourage you to get involved.
