The Review into the Future for Local Government accepted submissions on the Draft Report from 28 October 2022 to 28 February 2023.

The following privacy, transparency and moderation, and information statement was displayed on the submission portal during the submission period.

What information we collect:

We ask for your name/your organisation’s name as a requirement of making a submission.

We also invite you to share with us your demographic information, such as your age, region of residence and ethnicity. This information is helpful in determining the range of individuals, organisations and localities represented in submissions, however provision of this information is optional.

The Review into the Future for Local Government will never ask for any information that is not outlined in this document.

Your name and other information you share with us will only be published with your expresspermission. You will be asked to answer a ‘consent to publish’ question before you make your submission. This question will ask whether you give permission to publish:

  • all of the information you send us including your name and other information about you; or
  • publish the information with your name and other personal information removed; or
  • do not give permission to publish any information you send us.

While this may mean some submissions are not published, all submissions will be considered towards our final report and towards our submissions’ summary.

How we use this information:
Information you provide us will be used to review our engagement processes and inform our final report to the Minister of Local Government. We will aggregate the information we receive to produce a summary of submissions that we intend making available in April 2022.

The Review into the Future for Local Government is committed to protecting your privacy. Your information will be stored securely, as per the privacy statement outlined by Delib. See their privacy notice here.

Your information will be stored in accordance with our obligations under the Public Records Act 2005 and disposed of with the authority of the Chief Archivist.
Your information will stay in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Your information will only be shared within the Department of Internal Affairs and only to the extent required to undertake the submission process.

Information requests:

We may be asked to release submissions in accordance with the Official Information Act 1982 and the Privacy Act 1993. These laws have provisions designed to protect personal information given in confidence, but we cannot guarantee all of the information can be withheld. We will not release individuals’ contact details.

How we moderate submissions for publishing:


Your comments and feedback are important to us and we ask that you respect other
people’s views while making a submission. We may redact information from your submission if it fails to meet our moderation guidelines.

We will redact information from responses that:

  • Is explicit or unrelated content or personal information such as addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details. This is to protect your privacy.
  • Uses language or content that is defamatory, racist, sexist or discriminatory, insulting, offensive (including swearing and obscene or vulgar comments), or potentially harmful. We strive to ensure our submissions portal is safe for everyone.
  • Is not accurate or relevant.

Your rights to your information:

You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
