You talk of democracy yet you change the legislation so that the ratepayers can't have their say on Three waters via a local body referendum. Any changes you want to make to local government now should not be supported by citizens following the Three waters debacle. The Labour circus and current overseers of local bodies do not know the meaning of democracy.

At 16% or so of the population, why does everything have to have Maori at its core ? And don't talk about the fake treaty partnership. Queen Victoria did not enter into partnership with her subjects.

See above. Not everyone wants or needs to speak Maori in this country even though it's force-fed to us every waking moment of the day through state controlled media.

Question: What might we do more of to increase community understanding about the role of local government, and therefore lead to greater civic participation?

Type your comments below.
Local and central government is hardly trusted any more in this country due to past decisions being made dictatorially instead of democratically.
Nothing you might do can undo the harm that's already been caused.

There is nothing in the treaty that indicated that Queen Victoria had a treaty partner let alone anything about New Zealand being co-governed. The sooner New Zealand wakes up to this try-hard takeover by stealth, the sooner we start working together again as a unified community.

Leave councils to decide what's required after they listen to their ratepayers.

Questions: What feedback do you have on the roles councils can play to enhance intergenerational wellbeing?

They're there to look after infrastructure not to worry about someone's wellbeing. That's what doctors etc are for.

What changes would support councils to utilise their existing assets, enablers and levers to generate more local wellbeing?

Chapter 6: A stronger relationship between central and local government

Questions: Tell us your thoughts on building on current strengths and resources.

1. The conditions for success, and what are the barriers that are preventing strong relationships?
A total lack of democracy, demonstrated deceitfully by both local and central government in the past three years.
2. The factors in place now that support genuine partnership?
There is no mandate for a partnership - fairy tales abound about it though.
3. The elements that are needed to build and support a new system?
Democracy and truth. In that regard, there won't be a new system.
4. The best options to get there?
See above
5. Potential pathways to move in that direction and where to start?
See above
6. The opportunities to trial and innovate now?

How can central and local government explore options that empower and enable a role for hapū/iwi in local governance in partnership with local and central government? These options should recognise the contribution of hapū/iwi rangatiratanga, kaitiakitanga and other roles.

No treaty partnership ever existed - fairy tale

Questions: How can local government enhance its capability to undertake representation reviews and, in particular, should the Local Government Commission play a more proactive role in leading or advising councils about representation reviews?

Type your comments below.
No, the local government commission should stay right away. Their advice can't be trusted as truly independent. They've shown that democracy is not a core value any longer.

To support a differentiated liberal citizenship what are the essential key steps, parameters, and considerations that would enable both Tiriti and capability-based appointments to be made to supplement elected members?
